I am writing to request your support for House Bill 1697: An Act to reduce childhood obesity by removing the state subsidy for sugared sweetened beverages and candy.  This bill is very important to me because I recognize the growing burden of obesity and chronic disease in our society, especially among our children.  I believe it is our collective responsibility to address this growing epidemic that personally affects us all.

I also request that the money that is raised from this tax be used for public health programs to address the same chronic diseases that soda and candy cause, as the governor's budget has proposed.  I do not believe this tax should be implemented unless this money is put toward such a purpose.
